Freelance Illustration Consultant (8-Week Contract)

Duration: Approximately 8 Weeks Rate: £300/day (Umbrella PAYE) / £221.03/day (PAYE direct) Location: Hybrid / Remote (Ideally 1-2 days onsite in London)

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Illustration Consultant to join a major brand's in-house team for an 8-week sprint. Following a recent brand evolution, an initial illustration concept has been developed. Your mission is to take this high-level concept and transform it into a scalable, recognizable, and practical illustration system.

Note: This is not a blank-sheet project. You will build upon foundational work, refining and strengthening it to define exactly how illustration fits within the wider brand world across both marketing and product experiences.

What You’ll Do

• Develop the Visual Language: Evolve the existing concept into a distinctive, ownable style.
• Design for Scale: Ensure the system works across the full digital lifecycle—from simple spot illustrations in product UIs to complex scenes in digital marketing campaigns.
• Define Core Principles: Establish clear rules for composition, shape language, color usage, and tiered complexity.
• Deliver the Foundation: Hand over a refined illustration language, usage guidelines, exemplar illustrations, and well-organized source files for the internal team to adopt and extend.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience developing illustration systems or comprehensive visual languages for established brands.
• A portfolio that spans both marketing campaigns and digital product environments.
• High-level expertise in vector-based illustration and Figma workflows.
• A collaborative mindset, comfortable sharing work in progress and iterating closely with stakeholders.
• Bonus: Experience with AI-assisted creative workflows is highly desirable.
